Application Process
You must be a current active member of the CFDA (Cowboy Fast Draw Association) and belong to a local club from which your letters of recommendation will be generated.
Application period for scholarships is Jan 1st through June 30th of the year in which the scholarship is to be awarded. Scholarships will be awarded through the applicants college, university, or trade school. Awards will be announced on this website on August 1st, and in the CFDA Gunfighters Gazette.
- Request and fill out one copy of the official CFDA Shoot for the Stars Scholarship application.
- Provide an official copy of your previous two semesters grade transcripts. Photocopies will not be accepted.
- Provide two signed letters of recommendation from members of the CFDA club which you are a member of. Letters of recommendation cannot come from members of our evaluation board.
- Provide one color photograph of you in your gunfighting attire
- Complete a 500 word essay on one of the subjects as outlined in the official application
Application packets must be complete. Incomplete packets will not be evaluated. We will inform you if your packet does not contain all items required.
Review period of applications will be July 1st through the 31st and all applicants will be ranked according to a formula determined by our evaluation board. The evaluation board will be comprised of 5 members of the CFDA from 5 different states. Applicants will be ranked anonymously by our committee so that no favoritism will be shown. Ranking will be based on merits and essay only.
Scholarships will be automatically renewed on a year to year basis provided the recipient maintains a cumulative 2.0 GPA or higher, and may be renewed for up to four years of school. Scholarships are only good for undergraduate degrees and will not be awarded or extended for post-graduate studies.
Scholarships awarded through this institution are competitive. While all applicants will be given the opportunity to compete for an award, the most qualified applicants will receive the highest award. Maximum current award for the most qualified applicant is $2,500. Standard award for students enrolling in an accredited post-secondary college or university is $2,000. Students choosing to pursue a technical/vocational trade or a non-accredited course of study will receive a maximum award of $1,000.
